Are you ready to kick-off HOCO Week by Digging In & Giving Back?!

Join us for the 2026 Roadrunners Give Back event!

As part of UT San Antonio's Homecoming Week, students, staff, faculty, and alumni are invited to volunteer for this official UTSA Homecoming service project.

This year we're bringing Roadrunners together to serve with Gardopia Gardens, San Antonio's non-profit organization focused on growing healthy communities through garden-based learning!!

Volunteers will spend the morning supporting and maintaining Gardopia's community garden through hands-on projects that support Gardopia's healthy growing spaces and ongoing work in the community! ⁠

Important Info:

8:00 am: Check-In & Breakfast

8:30 am: Depart campus on UTSA provided shuttle

9:00 am: Volunteering with Gardopia

12:30 pm: Return to Campus

What to wear & bring:

Wear clothes you would normally wear for an outdoor volunteer activity and that you don't mind getting a little dirty

Please bring a reusable water bottle

Possible tasks:

Mulching garden beds and pathways

Planting fall crops in the raised beds and production areas

Trellising crops that need support

Weeding and general bed cleanup

Preparing/amending soil with compost and fertilizer as needed

Checking and repairing irrigation, including hoses, fittings, va lves, and timers

Greenhouse work, especially seed starting, transplan t preparation, and organizing propagation supplies

Maintaining the 12 raised beds and production areas

Plant care, including watering, pest monitoring, pruning, and replacing unsuccessful plants

Harvesting mature produce

Composting garden waste and maintaining compost areas

Maintaining fruit trees/crop rows

Organizing tools and supplies and keeping the garden work areas clean
