About the Instructor

Ruth Bushman is a San Antonio–based artist and organizer whose work explores transformation, material memory, and connection. She works at Caliente Hot Glass, a boutique glass studio on the city’s South Side, where she supports programming and community development. Her personal practice sources material directly from the studio’s glassblowing process, the off-cast remnants from the creation of fine glass art become afterglass. These fragments that carry visible evidence of their first life and are not erased or refined into uniformity. They are reassembled, elevated, and allowed to retain their history. The practice reflects her broader philosophy of stewardship: honoring what already exists and guiding it toward renewed purpose. Beyond the studio, Ruth is actively involved in cultivating the River Artes District, working alongside artists, businesses, and neighbors to strengthen a connected creative landscape. Her focus is on coalition building and accessible pathways for participation, helping creative ecosystems grow with intention. As a workshop instructor, Ruth brings a perspective grounded in process and resourcefulness.. She invites participants to look closely at the materials and systems around them and to consider how their own creative practice might transform what is already present into something meaningful and shared.
