BASQUIAT is a teatro flamenco production with elements of multimedia, spoken word, and performance art with concept and artistic direction by Tamara Adira, under the mentorship of renowned master Belén Maya.

We tell the story of the Neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and his life, which was just as fraught with artistry as it was with turmoil. He ran from a troubled household to the streets of New York, where started in graffiti art and went to achieve notoriety as one of the youngest artists invited to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial. He built a relationship and eventual artistic partnership with Andy Warhol. He dated Madonna before she became famous. He suffered with addiction for most of his adult life, and he died of a heroin overdose before he would even reach his 30th birthday. Basquiat’s work remains a template and inspiration for such artists as George Condo, Aboudia, and Banksy. His life also serves as a testament to the tragedy of addition and social disconnection that can plague the most gifted of us.

Admission $1 to the Zoom Room.

BASQUIAT was a SEVILLA BIENAL OFF #bienaloff production curated by Flamenco Rhythm Productions with support by Arte y Pasion.
