About this event

The Avanzando Sal ud : Cancer Health Research Center is a groundbreaking initiative directed by Dr. Amelie G. Ramirez of UT Health San Antonio and funded by the American Cancer Society (ACS) to focus on advancing research, care, and training in the non-medical drivers of health (NMDoH) to reduce the heavy cancer burden in South Texas. Partnering with Mays Cancer Center's Grand Rounds, the goal is to foster collaboration among early- and mid-career faculty who are passionate about improving cancer outcomes and survivorship research. The Center is thrilled to welcome Dr. Karen Fortuna, Associate Professor of Community and Family Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. We encourage all early- and mid-career faculty to join us in this initiative and explore how they can contribute to and benefit from this growing research network.

At the end of the seminar, the audience will:

• Describe how meaningful patient and community engagement can strengthen the relevance, acceptability, and real-world uptake of research and healthcare interventions.

• Identify evidence-based strategies for partnering with patients and communities across the research lifecycle, from identifying priorities and designing interventions to implementing and disseminating.

• Apply principles of the science of engagement to accelerate the translation of research into clinical and community settings, particularly for populations historically underrepresented in research.
