About this event

Join Green Spaces Alliance and partners for the first field workday of the Old River Trail / Padre Drive invasive plant restoration partnership. The project targets Arundo donax, a fast-spreading invasive cane that crowds out native vegetation and uses large amounts of water, around existing City tree plantings. Using a phased approach, the team will protect native trees and understory, avoid unnecessary soil disturbance and erosion, maintain shade along the waterway, and allow native plants to recover between treatment phases, with monitoring and follow-up treatment planned. Trained crews from SALSA Squad will handle all cutting and treatment. General volunteers will help move and consolidate cut material and learn how restoration protects the watershed.

Where: Old River Trail / Padre Drive Corridor, San Antonio, TX (city-owned corridor south of E. Pyron Avenue toward Mission Parkway)
